The Euro(EUR) is now the official currency of Belgium. Belgium's prior currency, the Franc, has now been phased out as legal tender and is no longer accepted.
Most major credit cards and Eurocheque cards are accepted in large cities and tourist areas. However, Credit Cards are less widely accepted in Belgium than they are in the USA or the UK and some smaller hotels may require bills to be paid in cash.
Euro travelers cheques are accepted, however it is more advisable to take cash.
If you are exporting more than EUR10,000, the authorities will investigate the origins of the money.
