Most major credit cards are accepted but it is wise to check with your card issuer before you travel.
The import and export of local and foreign currencies are free. However, you must declare amounts that exceed 10,000 Reais or the equivalent in foreign currencies.

In the big cities foreign currency can be exchanged quite easily at banks and cambios. In the smaller cities it is very difficult, time consuming and costly with often ridiculous rates of commission being charged.
Normal banking hours in Brazil are 10am-4pm Monday to Friday. There is an extensive network of cash machines throughout the country.
