In the area of Cyprus invaded by Turkey, Turkish currency is used, although Cypriot pounds are widely accepted.
The most commonly accepted credit cards in Cyprus are American Express, Bancard, Diner's Club Card, Master Card, Visa Card, JCB and their affiliates. These cards can be used in Cyprus at cash machines, various retail outlets and most hotels provided they are enabled for international access. Banks in Cyprus have cash machines which can be accessed 24 hours a day.
The import and export of local and foreign currencies are free. Declaration is required on amounts over CYP14,500 or equivalent.
Up to the equivalent of CYP1,000 may be taken out of the country or more if it was declared on arrival.
The import and export of local currencies is limited to HRK15,000. Larger amounts need to be approved beforehand

There are currency exchange facilities at all major airports and most hotels. There may be a small charge for cashing in Travellers Cheques.
