The Euro is now the official currency of France. France's prior currency, the Franc, has now been phased out as legal tender and is no longer accepted.
Most major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Diners) are accepted throughout France.
Euro travelers cheques are widely accepted everywhere. It is advisable to take Euro travelers Cheques and Euro notes as it is illegal in France for shops and hotels to accept foreign currency as payment.
The import and export of local and foreign currency is unrestricted. Amounts over €7600 must be declared.
