The Euro is now the official currency of Germany. Germany's prior currency, the Mark, has now been phased out as legal tender and is no longer accepted.
Credit cards are accepted in just over half of all shops and hotels. This is less than in UK and USA and it is advisable to carry cash with you. Most major credit cards are accepted but check with your bank before you leave to find out if it will be accepted in Germany.
Euro travellers cheques are widely accepted everywhere. It is advisable to take Euro travellers Cheques and Euro notes.
The import and export of local and foreign currency is unrestricted.
