Always exchange money at licensed booths because forged bank notes are a big problem in Hungary. The licensed booths will always operate under the consortium of a Hungarian commercial bank. Photo ID may be required for exchange of money. Travellers cheques are hard to change in Hungary therefore it is best to take notes.
Banks generally open between 8am and 4pm on weekdays and some are open on Saturdays.
