American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Diners Club are the most widely accepted credit cards and can be used at major hotels, restaurants and tourist shops; cash can be withdrawn from inside banks. It is best to keep some cash on you as Jordan is still largely a cash based economy.

Foreign currency and travellers cheques can be changed at any bank, moneychanger and some of the bigger hotels, Moneychangers generally give the better rate of exchange.
The banking hours in Jordan are Sat-Thurs 0830-1500. During Ramadan the banking hours are 0830-1000, although some banks open in the afternoon.
