Most businesses accept VISA and Mastercard. Diners club and American Express are also widely accepted in the tourist areas. However, credit cards may have limited acceptability in the more rural areas.
The import and export of all currencies is free. Amounts over NZD10,000 must be declared.

Travellers cheques and foreign notes can be exchanged at all banks, bureau de changes and most hotels. There may be a commission to pay.
Banking hours in New Zealand are 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and they are closed on public holidays.
