Turkish Lira Exchange Rate
The Turkish lira is the official currency of Turkey as well as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Having slid in exchange value prior to the 2005 introduction of the new lira, the Turkish lira has now stabilised and occasionally increased in exchange value against currencies such as the US dollar.

Using the Turkish lira abroad
Turkish new lira notes come in denominations of TRY1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100. Travellers cheques are accepted at some establishments, but are not as accepted as Turkish lira. Travellers returning to Turkey should also note that Turkish old lira notes will no longer be accepted following the introduction of the Turkish new lira.
Many Turkish establishments will accept major credit cards such as VISA and Mastercard, but other cards are not so widely accepted, meaning it's important to exchange your currency for Turkish lira before heading overseas.
