Over 13,000 holiday makers were struck with sheer panic as the foreign exchange company Crown Currency went into administration on the 4th of October 2010. To add to their fury customers have also been told that it could take six months before any kind of refund can be distributed (if any). The currency exchange firm also stressed that they were not covered by Financial Services Authority (FSA) which meant that customers were not able to approach the service for compensation.

The Turkish Liraâ€™s high value has proved to be a big problem for trade in the Turkish export assembly but it statistics have shown more British tourists have decided to visit the country.
Figures show that from January to June 2010 tourists reached 11,571,427 with a 9.26% on last year. The number of tourists visiting Turkey has multiplied over the last few months making it a hotspot for summer holiday makers.
If you are yet to book a holiday and fancy a cheap get away, travelling further a field and choosing Turkey maybe the best option. Turkey offers reasonable prices when dining out and taking part in leisurely activities. For example a meal at a cafÃ© can cost you somewhere around lira 2.54/ which is around Â£1. A bottle of wine will cost you approximately 8.48/ lira which is the equivalent to Â£5.00

The collapse of Crown Currency Exchange has highlighted just how little protection consumers have when buying currency online.
Many currency websites say they are registered with the FSA â€“ however, this means nothing in terms of regulatory supervision. Indeed, the selling of foreign exchange is not subject to FSA regulation at all, only money tranfer services.
